Intepat is an Indian intellectual property firm founded in 2009 and based in Bangalore. The firm handles patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyrights and foreign filing coordination for startups, operating businesses, research institutions and multinational clients.
The practice is organised around careful drafting, prosecution discipline, deadline control and continuity of counsel. For Indian matters, Intepat represents clients before the Indian Patent Office, the Trade Marks Registry and the Designs Office, and handles copyright filings and enforcement work before the Indian Copyright Office and the courts where applicable. For foreign filings, the firm coordinates with associate counsel in more than thirty jurisdictions while retaining client communication and docket oversight in Bangalore.
The firm at a glance
Intepat operates from Bangalore as a specialist IP practice with four core service groups: patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyrights. Patent work is further organised by technical domain so that inventions are reviewed by professionals who understand both the underlying technology and the prosecution issues likely to arise in India.
The firm has grown through capability additions rather than broad geographic expansion. Its work now spans Indian prosecution, PCT and national phase coordination, Madrid Protocol and national-route trademark filings, design registration, copyright filings, renewals, oppositions, hearings and portfolio management.
Intepat is suited to clients who treat intellectual property as a long-horizon asset. The engagement model is built around defined scopes, direct practitioner involvement, written prosecution strategy, docket discipline and practical reporting across the life of a matter.

The figures below are aggregate firm-reported indicators of practice scale based on internal records as of July, 2024. The figures summarise the firm's cumulative practice scale.
Four core service groups, supported by central operations.
Patents
Patent drafting, filing, prosecution, examination responses, hearing strategy, written submissions, PCT filings, national phase entries and portfolio review. The patent team works across computer-implemented inventions, electronics, mechanical systems, life sciences and industrial technologies.
Trademarks
Trademark clearance, classification, filing, examination responses, show-cause hearing support, renewals, oppositions, rectifications, Madrid Protocol filings and foreign trademark coordination. The practice is structured to identify clearance and specification issues before filing wherever possible.
Industrial Designs
Design search, drawing review, classification, Indian design filing, examination handling, renewal support, foreign design coordination, cancellation response strategy and enforcement support.
Copyrights
Copyright filing, ownership review, assignment and licensing support, software and content-related copyright documentation, enforcement assistance and takedown coordination where appropriate.
Operations and docket control
Docket control is retained in Bangalore for both Indian and foreign matters. The operations team tracks statutory deadlines, client approvals, filings, renewals and foreign associate updates so that responsibility for the matter does not disappear after filing.
Patent practice organised by technical field.
Intepat's patent practice is organised by technical field because prosecution risk differs across technologies. A software invention raises different issues from a pharmaceutical formulation, a semiconductor layout, a mechanical assembly or a diagnostic device. The firm's drafting and prosecution process reflects those differences.
Computer-implemented inventions, AI-enabled platforms, machine learning workflows, data-processing systems, automation tools and digital products, with attention to Section 3(k), technical effect, claim architecture and hardware interaction where genuinely supported by the disclosure.
Electronics and Semiconductors
Communication systems, embedded devices, IoT architectures, power electronics, sensors, VLSI-related inventions, control systems and hardware-software interfaces.
Mechanical and Automotive
Mechanical assemblies, automotive components, tooling, manufacturing systems, industrial machinery, product structures and process improvements.
Life Sciences and Biotechnology
Pharmaceutical formulations, biotechnology inventions, medical devices, diagnostic technologies, healthcare systems and related prosecution issues under the Indian patent framework.

Co-Founder & Head of Business Development
She works with founders, in-house teams, foreign associates and business stakeholders to ensure that scope, timelines, documents and responsibilities are clear at the start of an engagement. This function is particularly important in IP practice, where missed instructions, unclear ownership documents or delayed approvals can affect statutory rights.
Kalaivani also supports the firm's foreign filing coordination by helping maintain communication between clients, Intepat's internal team and associate counsel in other jurisdictions. Her role strengthens the firm's ability to manage IP portfolios as ongoing relationships rather than isolated filings.
The people behind the practice.
Intepat's practice depends on the people who handle the work after the first instruction is received. The team is structured to keep legal analysis, technical understanding, filing execution and client communication connected across the life of a matter.

Intake, prosecution, foreign coordination.
Intake & Scope
A typical matter begins with intake, conflict review and scope definition. For patent matters, the team reviews the invention disclosure, drawings, technical variants, priority position and filing objective before drafting or advising on route selection. For trademark matters, clearance and specification issues are addressed before filing wherever possible. For designs and copyrights, the team reviews the subject matter, ownership chain and filing material before submission.
Prosecution
During prosecution, office actions are reviewed for both legal and practical consequences. Responses are prepared with attention to support in the filed record, statutory exclusions, claim clarity, amendment limits and the client's commercial objective. Where hearings arise, the team prepares oral strategy and written submissions in advance rather than treating the hearing as a formality.
Foreign Coordination
For foreign filings, Intepat coordinates with associate counsel while retaining central docket oversight through its Global IP Filing practice. This is intended to keep the client-facing strategy consistent even when local counsel is required in another jurisdiction.
